Flying Classroom’s Bombardier Academy Announces New Aircraft Technician Competition To Be Held Annually at NBAA-BACE
LAS VEGAS (October 18, 2023) -- Flying Classroom’s Bombardier Academy today announced that this year’s National Business Aviation Association Convention & Exhibition (2023 NBAA-BACE) will host a new aircraft technician competition, launching a planned tradition to hold subsequent competitions at the show each year.
NBAA-BACE will be held Oct. 17-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Henderson Executive Airport.
The competition will be held October 18 from 12:45 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center (Central Hall, C6725). It will led by Captain Barrington Irving, a Guinness World Record-breaking pilot, recipient of NBAA’s American Spirit Award and founder of Flying Classroom, a nationally recognized STEM+ curriculum company.
The aircraft technician competition is designed to provide a comprehensive platform for aspiring technicians. The competition at NBAA-BACE will be held in a designated space and will include students from Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM)’s schools in Chicago and Las Vegas, the Barrington Irving Technical Training School in Miami, and other invitees from around the country.
The competition will include a Bombardier Challenger 650 Mini-General Familiarization course that will be overseen by Aviation Workforce Solutions, one of the Academy’s strategic collaborators. Prizes for the competition will be provided by Bombardier and Snap-On, Inc., which is also a strategic collaborator.
Bombardier will offer additional insights into potential career paths in the field. Honeywell Aerospace is supporting the competition by covering some student travel costs and providing giveaways.
“This competition is another step in our plan to grow the aircraft competition exhibition at future NBAA events, with the goal of helping more individuals build a career in business aviation,” Capt. Irving said. “We will have additional announcements next year, so be sure to stay tuned as this exciting program continues to take shape.”
The idea for Flying Classroom Bombardier Academy was hatched two years ago by Bombardier, Capt. Irving and NBAA. This year, the Academy has convened a series of workforce events, specialized training programs and initiatives aimed at promoting business aviation.
